John Byford will be the
liaison between State Coaches and the Regional Staff. John started with ODP
in 1995 as an assistant coach with EPYSA, become a Head Sate Coach and
joined the Regional Staff in 1997. Since joining the Regional Staff he has
also been an Assistant Coach with the U13’s and for the past two years Head
Coach of the U13’s.
“I think this a new and
exiting time for our region, and see my job as trying to help the state
coaches to better prepare their players for camp, so that they have the best
experience they can. I see my link on our website, as the state coach’s
gateway to what the regional coaching staff are trying to achieve and how
they can help them achieve that. Having been involved at all levels of the
process I know how important the state staff are in us achieving our goals”
“My intention is to
provide the state coaches with the latest technical reports from our
mini-camps and regional and national events. To provide them with ideas as
to what they could be doing and when, to best prepare the players for camp,
also to provide them with coaching tips. Once the Head Regional Coaches have
their camp curriculum in place to let the State Coaches have this
information and also the camp schedule.”
“What I really want to
do, however, is to make this a two way communication. I want State Coaches
to e-mail me with any ideas they have as to how we can improve what we do
and how we can make their jobs easier and more productive. If State Coaches
are interested in becoming Regional Staff coaches, I will help them with
that process. I really want to make State Coaches feel that they are part of
the whole process, so that we can continue to make Region 1 even better for
our players.”
