US Youth Soccer Region I
U19 Girls International Trip to Russia
March 2008

March 11 Update:  USA (1) - RUSSIA (0) - AWESOME PLAY BY USA.  Details to follow.

March 8 Update: Our first game did not go as well as we wanted. The game was a 0-0 match in the first half. I expected this to be the case based on the understanding that this was really the first time that the girls were playing together and it would probably take them about a half to get their act together. Around mid point in the second half we started to get our groove - but it quickly turned when they were awarded a pk. Then we came alive. Rachel Breton hit post, Alexa Lindo had a goal taken away from a great serve (counter play) from Amber Brooks. Alexa was offside. Alexa and Bri Contacos had other opportunities (both shots wide of the post). But after all the games that have been played thus far ... it was reported that the Poland - USA game was the best game of the tourney. Poland 1 - USA 0.

March 3 Update: The team arrived in Russia today.  The team administrator said it was the longest day recorded in history for them. The girls were great all the way through the trip and spirits are high. Also the girls recognize how very special this event and this opportunity is. They had a special welcoming committee at the airport and they also had a police escort the entire way from the airport to the soccer complex. Their rooms are right smack in the middle of the complex. They finally were able to sit down to dinner at 10:00pm Russia time and are really tired young ladies.  Tomorrow they will train and continue to get acclimated to the new surroundings.

Initial Story: The US Youth Soccer Region I Girls ODP team has been invited to the Kuban Spring Women Football Tournament by the Football Union of Russia.  The tournament will be held at Sport Base GIGANT, home to the 2014 Winter Olympics, between March 3 to March 15 in Krymsk (Krasnodar Region), Russia. The fields are on the coast of the Black Sea and at the foot of the Caucasus Mountains in southern Russia.

Initially created in 1977 as the US Youth Soccer Select Team Program, US Youth Soccer ODP was formed to identify a pool of players in each age group from which a National Team could be selected for international competition. A girls program was added to US Youth Soccer in 1985.

US Youth Soccer ODP is the original Olympic Development Program and the only elite player development program that can claim members of Major League Soccer as well as a majority of current and past national and youth team members, as alumni. US Youth Soccer ODP begins at the state level and offers regional and national championships and participation in international tournaments. For thirty years US Youth Soccer ODP continues to lead the way for players seeking to participate at the highest levels of soccer.
